I have realized more and more that I hate labels.  I hate the fight between liberals and conservatives.  I hate the fight between churches and denominations.  I hate that we classify people by their political views and religious views.  I hate that we are not always encouraged to just worry about how people treat other people; not by the views and outlooks they choose to take.

I hate it because the older I get the more I realize the labels we put on ourselves don't make us the person that we are.  I think that labels make us pass judgement.   I think it is harder to move forward when we label ourselves and others.  We go wrong in thinking that progressive thinking is too radical, just as conservative thinking holds us down.  If we didn't have progressive thinkers, then the human race would not have conquered monumental milestones.  If we didn't have Conservative thinking, then history would have a bad way of repeating itself.

I wish that everyone felt the power to make their own choices and formulate their own opinions.  I wish that every person felt empowered in a way that they felt confident in standing up for what they believe in.  I wish that we defined ourselves  and other by the compassion and kindness they show, not by their personal, religious, and political views.  I wish that we would erase the lines of labels, and focus on what is important.

All in all, I believe labels are not important  What is important is to focus on your family, your friends, and your neighbors.  It is important that to not pass judgement; to remember that someone's race, sexual orientation, social status and economic status does not define who they are.  Remember, that a person is defined by what is in their heart.  A good heart, is someone who cares and shows compassion.  My thoughts are scattered I know, but I believe that society will continue to struggle until we can erase the lines of our labels.  We need to get back to the basics; of fighting for what we believe in, moving forward when needed, and lending a helping hand.

“Acquire the courage to believe in yourself. Many of the things that you have been taught were at one time the radical ideas of individuals who had the courage to believe what their own hearts and minds told them was true, rather than accept the common beliefs of their day.”
